Privacy policy
Your progress stays on your device. There is no account and nothing to sign up for.
What Rookdex stores, on your device only
Rookdex keeps a few things in your browser's storage on this device:
- Your profiles and what you have ticked off (IndexedDB).
- Which profile is active, the language you picked, and two notes that a message was already shown: the install prompt and the storage hint (localStorage). If you choose "update later", that is kept only until you close the tab (sessionStorage).
- An offline copy of the site, so it works without a network (the service worker cache).
What leaves your device: nothing
There is no account, no cookies, no analytics, no ads and no trackers. The fonts come from Rookdex itself, not from a font service.
Hosting
Cloudflare serves the site. Like any web host, it sees your IP address so it can deliver the pages to you. Rookdex runs no server code of its own and keeps no logs.
Cloudflare does this for Rookdex as a data processor, under its data processing agreement. Its network is global, so a request may be handled outside the EEA, and that agreement covers it with the EU's standard contractual clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. The legal basis is a legitimate interest in delivering the site to you safely (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Rookdex keeps nothing itself, so there is nothing to retain or delete on its side.
You have the right to object to this processing at any time (GDPR Article 21). Write to the address under "Who runs Rookdex".
Links to other sites
Sources, news reports and the GitHub link take you to other sites. Their own privacy policies apply there.
If you email Rookdex
If you email feedback@rookdex.app or legal@rookdex.app, I get your email address and what you write. Your own email app sends the message, and Cloudflare forwards it to my inbox at Proton Mail. I use it only to reply, and I delete the conversation when it is done. The legal basis is a legitimate interest in answering you (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
The Android app
The Rookdex app on Google Play is this website, opened in a browser on your phone. That is usually Chrome, but it can be another browser you have set as your default. Everything on this page applies to the app, and the browser's own privacy policy applies to the browser.
Delete your data
Go to Settings and choose "Delete all data on this device". It deletes your profiles, your progress and your language choice. The notes about the install prompt and the storage hint stay, so they do not come back. To remove everything, including the offline copy, clear this site's data in your browser's site settings. Uninstalling the Android app does not do this, because the data lives in the browser.
Who runs Rookdex
Rookdex is run by Malin Fossum in Norway.
Questions about privacy: legal@rookdex.app
You can ask what is processed about you, and you can complain to Datatilsynet, the Norwegian Data Protection Authority.
If Rookdex ever stores anything off your device, for example accounts, this page changes before that ships.
